We conquered fertile land, fruit of sacrifice and effort, as legend has it, it was the bravery of the bird Dziú, who with audacity and courage rescued the corn fields, today fertile land that offers the opportunity to build a community of bold dreams and free spirits that harvest achievements in its path.

THE LEGEND

Chaac, the God of Rain, was invoked by the Maya to obtain good harvests. One day when he came out of the cenote where he lived, he was worried when he saw the crops almost dry. The Lord of the Rain called the birds and told them: “Life will depend on you. I am going to burn the crop fields, I ask you to save the seeds of all the plants to sow them again once the earth has been enriched with the ashes”.

Among the birds were the birds Dziú and Tho, the first was humble, with colorful plumage; and the second, a being of great beauty, but vain. Tho flew off at full speed, which exhausted him, so he stopped to rest and fell asleep. Dziú’s flight was more persevering than fast, he arrived at the fields when the fire was already consuming them, but he began the search with courage.

The small birds picked up the seeds within their reach, while some terrestrial birds fled from the fire by trampling Tho’s long tail, which was sleeping by the side of the road. The proud bird awoke and saw that his beautiful tail feathers were ruined, so with erratic flight he only managed to rescue the green tomato seed.

After the fire, the Dziú bird’s plumage was black and gray like ash and his eyes, red like fire; while Tho had green eyes, like the seed he had saved. Chaac rewarded the Dziú bird for saving the corn seed by giving it permission to lay its eggs in any nest; the rest of the birds would incubate and care for them as if they were their own.
